Experience

Dr. Hatam established Blue Bell Periodontics to be a modern, state-of-the-art facility for periodontal and implant surgery. She has extensive experience and expertise in Implantology and Periodontology as surgical faculty of the Department of Periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. In addition, Dr. Hatam has practiced Periodontics in numerous general dental practices and multi-specialty offices including the faculty practices of the University of Pennsylvania.

Education

Dr. Hatam received her dental degree from Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany. She started her professional career as a teaching instructor in the Department of Periodontology at the same University. To advance in the field of Periodontics and to train with some of the leading clinicians and researchers in this field, Dr. Hatam joined the University of Pennsylvania in 1993. She received her DMD in 1995, after completing the Program for Advanced Standing Students in the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She then continued her studies in the Department of Periodontics, where she received her Certificate in Periodontics in May 1998.

Teaching/Awards

Dr. Hatam served as a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania from 1995 through 2007 in the undergraduate Periodontics Department and from July 2014 until present at the graduate program of the same department. She was the Clinical Director of Undergraduate Periodontics from 1999 to 2002. Dr. Hatam has received many prestigious teaching awards, including the Joseph Appleton Teaching Award and the distinguished Outstanding Teacher Award of the School of Dental Medicine. She has also received the Top Periodontist Award from the Top Dentist issue of the Philadelphia Magazine most recently in 2021 and 2020.
